MCO went to Kazakhstan to discuss on iternationalisation ambitions

Almaty 2-3 October 2017

The Observatory went Kazakhstan on 2 - 3 October 2017. The HE Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan and the Observatory jointly delivered a workshop on achieving internationalisation ambitions in a value driven way at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Almost 100 senior people attended, some from neighbouring countries.

The purpose of the Workshop was to enable universities in the region to prosecute internationalisation strategies founded on the values of the Magna Charta Observatory and the expectations of stakeholders.

The President and the Secretary General delivered sessions along with Banu Narbekova (Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science). Examples of the progress being made with specific internationalisation projects were showcased.

David Lock, Secretary General, spoke of the importance of internationalisation for enabling universities to play their part in the achievement Kazakhstan’s national plans. Legislation is currently going through the Parliament to grant universities greater autonomy which will enable them to enhance their contribution to society.
