The MCO at Going Global 2017

London, 22-24 May 2017

The Magna Charta Observatory was represented on May 22-24, 2017 at Going Global, the British Council's conference for leaders of international education. Over 900 leaders, including Ministers, Rectors and sector leaders, gathered in London from more than 80 countries for this influential conference.

The theme was Global Cities: connecting talent, driving change.

MCO President, Sijbolt Noorda, was a panelist in the session looking at World Access to Higher Education day along with others from the UK, Spain and the ASEAN region.

Secretary General, David Lock, participated in other sessions including some which offered insight to the MCO's Living Values project. There were different perspectives including that of John Hudzik who advocated core values of 'access, equity, knowledge creation and knowledge dissemination'. The Land Grant institution from which he came (Michigan State University) was set up to provide benefit to the community. The expectations regarding the nature of the benefit which universities provided to their host cities were expressed in a variety of ways in different sessions with the Mayors of Paris, Rome and Almaty contributing to the closing session.

The 2018 Going Global conference is to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 2-4 May.

More details of the 2017 conference can be found at @HEGoingGlobal or http://www.britishcouncil.org/going-global.
