Integrity: a cornerstone value for Higher Education and Research

23 May 2018

This workshop took place at the Maison des Universités in Paris immediately prior to the European Higher Education Area Ministerial Conference and the Bologna Follow-up Group Meeting. It aimed to understand the challenges posed by integrity in terms of training and research and to explore measures to promote integrity for universities and national systems. This seminar was organised by the Magna Charta Observatory (MCO) to enable universities to build their strategies on fundamental values.

The sharing of experiences of integrity from different countries, including France was complemented by  workshops on the main aspects of this increasingly important topic. Key questions included ‘why is integrity important?’  ‘Which strategies are needed at the institutional level  and at the national level to achieve integrity?’ ‘How can students, staff and researchers be involved?’ ‘What is the role of the MCO?’

This seminar, aimed at university leaders and all those interested in the major issue of academic integrity, provided universities with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Magna Charta Universitatum and its practical value  and to meet leaders of other universities including signatories of the MCU.
