MCO at AArU Annual Convention

Al Ain, UAE - March 22nd, 2016

Secretary General to speak at Association of Arab Universities Annual Convention.

The MCO’s Secretary General, David Lock, is to be one of the speakers at the opening of the Association of Arab Universities Annual Convention in Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates on 22 March.

The Association of Arab Universities  is an organisation working within the framework of the Arab League to support and connect universities in the Arab world and to enhance cooperation among them. In recent years it has been active in scientific collaboration and in 2014 it established the Arab European Leadership in Education Network (ARELEN). This network has organised leadership development programmes on themes such as internationalisation and research.

The Association and the Magna Charta Observatory will be holding a joint event later in the year to explore ways in which the fundamental values set out in the Magna Charta Universitatum can further empower Arab universities to play a more effective role in the development of their nations.

Speaking of the significance of the invitation, David Lock said “As the Arab world takes an increasingly prominent role in global affairs, it is hugely encouraging that their University Association is engaging with the Observatory to ensure that their universities are engaging on a basis that has the utmost integrity and will provide the sustainable benefits that have been evident in other regions. I look forward very much to participating in the event and to more Arab universities signing up to the values that have served so well in other regions of the world.”
