Thank you for being so interested in the Magna Charta. This was first signed in 1988 by 388 European universities and now over 900 universities from all continents have signed it. We are pleased that you would now like to join the ranks of the signatories, thus indicating your support of the principles outlined in this document.
To do so, the Governing Council of the Magna Charta Observatory reviews requests to sign the Magna Charta Universitatum during its Summer meeting, before the 2024 signing event.
Please read the Admission Policy and the Application Form that you can download, fill out, and send us back by e-mail, together with the listed required documents.
The Application Form and the required documents have to be drafted in (or translated into) English.
Deadline to submit the documents: August 2nd, 2024.
If your University is accepted to sign the MCU2020, the Rector/Vice-Chancellor/President will be invited to join the upcoming Ceremony of the Signature, which will be held in Washington DC, USA, on October 23-25, 2024, at the occasion of the event organised to celebrate the Anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum. If you cannot participate in that edition, you may sign in on the following anniversary.
After five years from the acceptance, the application expires, and you should re-apply.

If your university has already signed the Magna Charta Universitatum of 1988 or, if your university has been formally accepted by the MCO Governing Council to sign the MCU2020, you can sign the MCU 2020 virtually.
To do that:
If your university has never signed the Magna Charta Universitatum, you should follow the procedure above, described under
"PROCEDURE TO SIGN THE MCU 2020".
