Save the Date | Magna Charta Universitatum Anniversary 2026

The Anniversary of the Magna Charta Universitatum 2026 will take place from 14 to 16 October 2026 at Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Entitled “Beyond Resilience: Universities as Active Value-Driven Agents in a Changing World”, the 2026 Anniversary will bring together university leaders, academics and institutional partners from across the globe to reflect on the evolving role of universities in a time of geopolitical uncertainty, technological transformation and societal change.

The theme has been shaped by the priorities expressed by Magna Charta signatory institutions, highlighting the importance of strengthening institutional autonomy, safeguarding academic freedom, reinforcing public trust and promoting democratic engagement. The Anniversary will offer a space for dialogue on how universities can move beyond responding to challenges and instead act as proactive, value-driven actors in their societies.

Hosted in Europe at a significant moment for the region, the 2026 event will also provide an opportunity to explore the contribution of universities to cooperation, sustainability, international collaboration and integrity in higher education.

Further details on the programme, speakers and thematic sessions will be published in the coming weeks. Registration and practical information for participation will be made available online in due course.
